Climbing Mountains
A very good morning to you. It is the 1st of September 2022, Thursday morning, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.”
Philippians 3:12
What is it that the Lord has laid hold of you for? What is the mountain that you are climbing at the moment? When we intend to climb a mountain, we first must sit down at the base and weigh up the cost. If we don't and we tackle Mount Everest, then we will surely fail miserably. Do you know that more than 300 people have died trying to climb Mount Everest? Approximately 200 bodies are still up there due to the difficulty in recovering them, and yet, so many of us do not sit down and count the enormous cost before we tackle our mountain.
Jesus says in Luke 14:28:
“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it.”
By all means, we must aim high. Mount Everest is the highest mountain on earth, it stands at 8,849 meters high. It is an extremely serious challenge, but you and I are climbing our own mountains, aren't we? It might be marriage; it might be a business deal; it might be immigration to another country; it might be that operation the doctors say you have to have; it might be that commitment that we made to Jesus. I want to say to you, my dear friend, that there's no turning back. When we start on our journey to climb that mountain, we have to persevere right to the top. It's a dangerous thing to come down again when you haven't reached the top. And by the way, why would you want to come down again when Jesus is waiting for us at the top of that mountain?
Have a blessed day and go for it.
God bless you and goodbye.
